After having the one of those weeks where the crap rolled downhill and accumulated mass, I feel bushed. There’s not too many rap songs that will recharge me but I know the people need what they need. Therefore, I dug up one that I had saved to listen to anyways, this An Experiment In Instrumentation creation by orchestrated by none other than Shoes.
“An Experiment in Instrumentation is definitely one of the stand outs among the beat tapes in my opinion. There is not many words to describe the tape. There is also no lane it can be categorized in. Its a step in a new direction. A step of growth in my production. And most importantly, it’s new material for my people. Enjoy, & all feedback is appreciated.”
While it’s definitely rooted in Hip-Hop, the musical sound and influences on this one are a patchwork quilt. Trippy. Ambient. Therapeutic. Surreal. At times, it felt like it was going ten different places without having left square one. And it was enough to take my mind away from the days past.
Since there’s no better place to start than the beginning, check the first track, “Lights Off” featuring Karen O, then grab the full set.
