Don Lemon’s Interview With Talib Kweli Was An Absolute Trainwreck

Don Lemon has always been considered one of the more insufferable CNN correspondents. He’s from the class of “If I can pull myself up by the bootstraps then why can’t you” snobbery. He’s been reviled by Twitter ever since he agreed with Bill O’Reilly about Black America’s problems (Spoiler: It’s never good to agree with Bill O’Reilly about Black anything’s anything).

Talib Kweli is one of the staples of underground rap. He’s rapped about uplifting Black America and revolutions and everything you don’t hear on the radio. He’s also a bit confrontational from time to time. However, he gets respected for his willingness to take a stand and speak up when necessary.

So when the two come face to face for an interview, America loses. It takes about 30 seconds for the interview to devolve into a “you didn’t say ‘hi’ when you saw me” sassy battle out of Mean Girls. It’s so bad that Lemon is audibly begging producers not to cut off the interview. (Spoiler: producers should have cut off the interview)

This is a live television car wreck before our eyes. Because I can’t…stop…watching.

Now on the flip side, Killer Mike was also on CNN yesterday. He was treated with kindness and full respect was given to his voice as a man of the people. As expected, he did an admirable job sharing his perspective as a rapper, father, son of a policeman and lyrical activist.
