Fat Joe – The Darkside 3 Mixtape

Because of who it is, The Darkside 3 may get swept under the rug. Don’t make that mistake of judging a book by previous lackluster singles and albums.

Fat Joe began his four month bid in the belly of the beast yesterday for tax related issues that came back to bite him in the ass. Before doing so, Don Cartegena gave the world a parting gift in DS3, an impressive project highlighted by nostalgic production from Cool & Dre, 9th Wonder, Premier and more to compliment vivid storytelling on tracks like “Darkside III,” “Angel Sings 2” and “Pain.”

At 10 tracks, Darkside is an easy enough listen to digest in one sitting. Yet, the satisfaction is enough to walk away with the feeling of having listened to a tape that made its argument for its place on those “Top 15 Projects You Slept On In 2013” lists that’ll begin to populate the Internet in December.

Because seriously, Joe just dropped one hell of a collection of thoughts. Who knew Pun had an extra stash of rhyme books?

Bonus: Crack also dropped off the video for the self-titled intro, “Darkside 3.” Watch it below as well.
