The weekly edition of G.O.O.D. Friday music delivered fresh on a Saturday morning. Although the title says differently, “The Joy” is more ‘Ye & Jay instead of all the names listed. Pete Rock did indeed lace one hell of a beat and it’s beautiful that they let it ride out near the end. Part of me has a bone to pick with the titling of the track though. It’s a little reaching to include Curtis Mayfield as a featured artist here, almost as bad as when artists send over “remixes” of hot-at-the-moment tracks and label it as a remix. But Kanye gets a pass for using one of my absolute favorite songs by Curtis and anything that heightens awareness about one of the greatest musicians of the past fifty years deserves commendation (pay homage © Max B).
Sidebar mentions should note that Kanye tweeted that the new album is “finally done” and shared a snapshot of the final product, so I’m a little leery of those saying they’ve already obtained it from an online source. Still, it’s only a matter of time if there are physical copies now in existence.[audio:http://www.archive.org/download/KanyeWestFeat.PeteRockJay-zCharlieWilsonCurtisMayfieldKidCudi-/TheJoyfeat.PeteRockJay-zCharlieWilsonCurtisMayfieldKidCudi.mp3%5D
