One of my favorite episodes of Everybody Hates Chris was when he made the wrestling team. Long story short, he did so because he believed having a letterman jacket would allow him to experience a different world socially. The same can be said, somewhat, about the DMV’s own Phil Adé.
Last year’s highly touted The Letterman set the stage and opened a few eyes for his presently 2DopeBoyz-sponsored project A Different World. Now, with a slightly larger following, Adé is attempting to prove what myself and a few others have been thinking for a minute – D.C. Hip-Hop is slowly, but surely cooking something whose aroma will at some point cause the rest of the country to have a seat at the dinner table. I’m enjoying the contrast of styles he and Trel present, meanwhile hoping the best of the two District upstarts have yet to hit their ceiling.
That leaves us right here on the cusp of yet another project, by yet another artist attempting to win over your listening preferences and speakers. How’s this one going to differ? It’s probably better to let the man of the hour do the convincing here. Besides, between this project and the Washington Nationals showing signs of not wanting to finish last in the NL East, it may be the best thing to hit D.C. all summer/fall. Because we all know the Redskins are going to disappoint, right? I know, I’m sorry. I couldn’t resist.
Hit the flipside to see the footage on how A Different World came to be.
