With a few lead singles carefully selected and released to mostly warm response, Nashville’s R&B one-man crew Rio (he writes, sings, and produces) is ready to roll out his Good Morning, Dreamer in full. As hinted at with songs like the pulsing “Sex and Sativa,” serene, late summer number “So You Say,” and the project’s title track, Good Morning, Dreamer demonstrates Rio’s penchant for switching tempos and styles on the fly.
The self-produced “Lost In The Lights,” with its layered piano arrangement and uptempo drums, carves out space in the Hip-Hop and pop scenes, while songs like “No Pressure” combine smooth vocal accents popular in early 2000s R&B with contemporary delivery and production. In fitting with the project’s succinct format, Rio also uses a few tracks to play with some different song ideas – records that could very well fit on future projects in their more drawn out versions.
Can Rio be the latest multi-talented solo act to make a splash on the independent R&B scene?
