Lil Reese – Don’t Like Mixtape

Lil Reese is another prominent member in Chicago’s emerging rap scene that the labels are quickly scooping up. Don’t Like is the Def Jam signee’s latest free project, and there really isn’t much about it not to like. Co-hosted by Don Cannon and DJ Drama as the latest installment of the Gangsta Grillz series, Don’t Like is a foray into some of the best of the best in Chicago’s drill scene and the ten track tape has a distinct fluidity to it, courtesy of Chop, Lil Durk, Gangsta Gibbs and Mr. “3 Hunna” himself, Chief Keef, make appearances.

Young Chop’s instrumentals are easier to identify these days, even if his signature drop isn’t there. On Reese’s project, it sounds like the score to a terrifying horror movie with the sinister synth melodies floating precariously over bootleg Lex Luger-styled hi-hats. Whether it’s the musical accompaniment to the dark realities of Chicago and its escalating murder rate, or just a soundtrack to cause mischief and blow shit up to on the yesterday’s fireworks, Lil Reese strikes a perfect balance with Chop.

Plus, DJ Drama and Don Cannon appear together on their first project together in a minute. Between them reuniting, and tracks like “Rap Shit,” what’s not to like?
