For as omnipotent a figure as Lil Wayne fancies himself, it’s been a minute since the Young Money general dropped a project that had more than Billboard buzzing. Maybe that changes with Carter V; the fifth installment in Wayne’s flagship series hasn’t officially been confirmed yet, but a Drake tweet is probably as close as we’ll get short of an official press release indicating the wheels are in motion.

Remember, it wasn’t long ago that Wayne promised retirement after V drops. Considering that the original dropped back in 2004, dropping his swan song ten years later – and then walking into the sunset – would definitely be a very neat, symmetrical way to call it a career. But then, you know how these rapper retirement stories go. Time will tell.
At the very least, rumors – courtesy of Gotty – that Mannie Fresh is handling the production should inspire some excitement. Better that than pretty much anybody else, if you’re missing that old Cash Money Records sound.
