Last week, I had the opportunity to catch Ducko McFli perform a short set featuring music from KingDuck, a collaborative EP featuring production by Chris King. The sounds had a Pied Piper effect with beats that managed to move the gathered crowd, which isn’t a small feat when considering how our audiences tend to be unresponsive to unfamiliar artists and material. Duck’s performance was capped by “Used To Say,” featuring artist extraordinaire Rio leading the chorus and harmonizing throughout the track, and lyrics that embody the whole spirit of an underdog MC practicing patience while fighting for a chance to be heard.
The track – actually, the whole EP – ended up becoming an essential part of daily operation for the past five days and the Xclusive Access Media-video seen below compliments it well. Other KingDuck high points include “Serenade,” the bouncy “The Dealer” and the lyrical faceoff “Kamayamaya (Goku)” with Classic Williams and Evan Blocker.
