With a release date for his new project set for January 9, 2013, Dyme A Duzin’s “Swank Sinatra” video featuring the Pro Era mob of CJ Fly, Capital Steez and Joey Bada$$ feels like something we would’ve seen resonating from the Empire State in the mid-’90s. With Nas rhyming outside of a burning trash can smoking a blunt reciting ghetto narratives, or something like that. The loopy camera angles, hoodies, beanies and cypher-feel are crucial to video’s vibe; an ambiance that screams New York City Hip-Hop, if nothing else.

This new Big Apple movement – primarily the Pro Era crew – is one a significant number of the people have vested interest in as the new year approaches. And by the looks of Portrait of Donovan, which includes production from Plain Pat, Emile Haynie and Harry Fraud, the next several months of Dyme’s career give itself a makeover in front of our very eyes. New York isn’t “back,” or whatever that means, but they’ve got some youngin’s on the cusp doing their part to restore that feeling NYC rap once provided.
