‘Murica!: Man Grows 8,000 Marijuana Plants, Gets Probation

A 61-year-old man was given two years probation after being convicted of growing 8,000 marijuana plants on his farm in 2011. Edwin Schmieding was planning to enter Michigan’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry, but growing that many plants remains illegal. So what is your guess on the amount of jail time this green-thumbed grandpa received today? If you picked the same number of f*cks the Supreme Court gives about black folks’ voting rights, you win!

The AP reports that the presiding U.S. District Judge Benard Friedman was quoted as saying “This is one that most screams out: This man deserves a break,” as he decided to sentence Schmieding to two years probation and no jail time. So in an up and down week, common sense get another victory, as a non-violent, first time, drug offender eludes prison. Still, I can almost hear my mom saying “now if he was black…”
