At first, Eminem was playing a role in the upcoming movie Southpaw, then he wasn’t. After that, he was going to add music to the soundtrack, now he’s behind the full soundtrack.
That’s the word that emerges today as Shady Records announces they’re creating all of the music for the boxing flick, per Paul Rosenberg’s statement to Billboard.
“We have been involved in developing Southpaw since its inception, and Eminem has dedicated himself to ensuring that this film captured his passion for the project through his music,” says Shady Records president Paul Rosenberg. “We’ve assembled a great soundtrack to accompany what’s sure to be one of the finest boxing films ever.”
The first single from the project is “Phenomenal,” featuring Eminem and production by DJ Khalil. In the video below, a preview of the song plays and the clip doubles as a Beats By Dre add, too, with Golden State Warriors all-purpose player Draymond Green as the focus.
Southpaw arrives in theaters in late July.
