Even though I’m a writer and am supposed to be above proficient at describing what I hear, oftentimes it’s the unclassifiable that catches my ear. Jarell Perry’s new single “Eleven” isn’t your typical R&B cut, which may explain its appeal. The instrumental is hard to place into a presorted category, with these weird sonic flourishes that sound like they’re of the laser family, but more mellow than that. There are plenty of other nuances that move “Eleven” to a grey space between R&B and rap, even with Chuck Inglish tacking on a verse.
Perry’s White EP is on the way with an anticipated December touchdown.
