Freeway Feat. Neef Buck – “Numbers”

Between his latest mixtape and upcoming album, Diamond in the Ruff, Freeway is sounding like a new man as of late. His rejuvenated raps on “Numbers” rival the energy of Roc-A-Fella Records and State Property in their heyday. While past material may have been lost in the shuffle of label transitions, Free’s path look clear for focusing on music again.

And it shows. After hearing Free and Neef trade bars on this record for the better part of my evening yesterday, I dipped back into the old catalog to see how it fared against some of the tracks on Philadelphia Freeway and let’s just say it’s up there. Pending a little bit more listening, “Numbers” could legitimately wind up being being my favorite Freeway song in a cool minute (but his best recent verse is still from “Anything to Survive”).

Diamond in the Ruff drops November 27 on Babygrande Records.
