A few weekends back, I walked into the cocktail hour of a wedding reception I felt very uncomfortable at and immediately found solace in the stand-up piano player hammering out George Benson’s unmistakable jam “Breezin.”
As a solo act on a Korg Triton, he obviously couldn’t capture Benson’s full range of fluttering guitars, calming flutes or casual hand drums. And he sure as hell couldn’t do that bass groove justice. But, I’ll be damned if he wasn’t nailing the Pittsburgh Jazz guitarist’s hit instrumental single from 1976 to the point I picked it up before I even had a drink in my hand.
Gin and tonic and George Benson. Now that’s a good stress reliever.
