To my knowledge, Travis Garland is of no kin to Maurice. So try not to allow the lack of familiarity of with Travis’ name deter one from at least formulating an opinion on Travis’ music.
Chances are Garland has heard this comparison so much he’s ready to bash his head against a table, but there are hints of Justin Timberlake scattered throughout the album nearly impossible to ignore. The self-titled project (available on iTunes) has a certain groovy factor working in its favor though. Songs like “Where To Land,” “Abby Lee,” “Clouds,” “Blue Electric Roses” and “Homewrecker” are strong enough to stand out on their own.
Be the judge for yourself ultimately. One thing is for sure, however. Between this, Janelle Monae, Robin Thicke, The Internet, Timberlake, Mayer Hawthorne, the TGT album (don’t be fooled, it has solid records on there) and – if we’re lucky – the new Art Dealer Chic trilogy Miguel promised before summer, the fall is setting up quite nicely.
