Martin Luther King and Harry Belafonte – for lack of a better term – were rockstars during the 1950s and ’60s. So it only makes sense they ran in the same circles. Whatever the reason was here, Young Harry and Brother Martin are shown in merrier times photographed in the middle of what looks to be one of those soul-cleansing laughs which often bring a person to tears. Maybe Belafonte made a joke about J. Edgar Hoover being a cross-dresser because King definitely has that, “You a wild boy, Harry!” laugh/look.*
In all seriousness though, it’s just remarkable to see Martin truly happy, without a care in the world for a change. Even if it was only for a split second.
