Now that Harvard’s Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship is in full effect, Ammunition By Design’s taking us through the ins and outs of the program. From the video, it’s a great idea, and the execution is following slowly, but surely. It’s focusing on the youth with the goal of emphasizing the music rather than the street life aspect of Hip-Hop.
According to the clip, this train of thought is to leave students with values and skills that nurture success in all walks of life, transcending just music. Survival, entrepreneurship, and community involvement are just a couple of the facets that are taught through the fellowship. The greatest thing is that this is just the fledgling model of what Harvard is building. There’s so much potential to make a difference in children, and especially at-risk children. And if this just a taste of what’s to come, there could be an influx of these programs all around the country.
