Hi-Jynx – “Never Fail”

“They don’t know who I am / Here’s a good impression / Transfer student in class, with these new freshman / City on my back like I’m benchin’…”

The Secret Society mixtape Gotty™ posted at the top of the year came on while I was on the way home last night and this track caught my ear.  I was drawn in by the haunting vocal intro and the Spaghetti Western-inspired backdrop made me take extra notice.  After the buildup, I was practically on my hands and knees praying some no name rapper didn’t screw up this captivating beat.

Thankfully, Brooklyn born & Queens bred emcee Hi-Jynx didn’t disappoint.  Perhaps it’s the duality of his upbringing, but his flow & voice brought to mind a young AZ: another rapper associated with both boroughs.  With the sole purpose of showing how nice he is, his words cut across the track like he was wielding a Hattori Hanzo blade.  How he fares going forward is unknown, but I’ll definitely keep an eye out for him.
