Halloween is soon approaching, so it seems only fitting that the first full-length trailer for the upcoming Alfred Hitchcock biopic, Hitchcock, has hit the web. The film centers on the time in the prolific director’s life when he was creating one of his masterpieces, Psycho, and stars Anthony Hopkins as the legendary filmmaker and Helen Mirren as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma Reville.
The trailer’s focus seems to center on Hitchcock and his wife’s relationship and the social difficulties the auteur director had to go through to get the film made. The snippet ratchets up the drama to ten, with some potentially great cameos like Scarlett Johansson as the movie’s scream-queen, Janet Leigh.
Hitchcock’s director, Sacha Gervasi, makes his narrative debut from the documentary world, but viewers will note his eye for detail in the short trailer. Hopkins and Johansson become near-doppelgangers for the characters they’re playing, and the cinematography looks captivating. With a November release date looking, there’s sure to be more forthcoming information on the film.
But judging from the preview, Hitchcock could become a year-end gem.
