“…But you can stop complaining, ’cause I’m finally here.”
LC has left quite a void to be filled, hasn’t she…? sucks she doesn’t contribute much anymore…
My head is so gassed I’d float away if I weren’t too busy wiping away tears and what not, Teefus. I’m still here. The long and short of the matter is moving home and starting my job sidelined me into rubbing elbows with local politicos and buh-blasting the flavor of the day during my commute. But regardless of all that bull, you know I missed you too. And speaking of commute music, you know who else I miss? Kanye West.
Not Kanyeezy. Not Yeezy. Not ‘Ye. Fucking Kun-yay Wes — like how your friend with the slow, gravely drawl says it. I miss the Kanye that friend would listen to. Forget all this Pop Art and newfangled, artsy fartsy, love mullet rigamarole; I want Kanye “ionnwannabebrokewhenahmthirtyone” West.
Prince of music tides…Poseidon of a production ocean…King Triton of the ever changing sea of Hip-Hop.
Yes, I get it, he’s headlining the way into a sing-a-sonic-phonic funk era of tinky, tinny synth. But I just sort of really want sped-up soul hooks and Jamie Foxx slow jams, and the farther we get away from them the more I realize the honeymoon is over. The more I realize getting booed at Bonnaroo was perhaps the straw that broke the water-logged camel’s back. The more I realize a Michael Jackson fate awaits the man with too much pop power.
Heavy is the crown, Kanye. Heavy indeed.
But like “Billie Jean” and “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” and “Never Can Say Goodbye” before them, I will wear the tape off “Late” and “Flashing Lights” and “Get ‘Em High” til they’re stretched beyond digital listenability.
MJ’s not coming back, Kun-yay’s not either. Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
Good to be back, Teef and TSS. You had me at “we about to get real unprofessional.”
