His tenure at Florida International didn’t include any over-the-top scandals, but embattled, former Bad Boy Isaiah Thomas still felt the wrong end of the axe Friday. The Pistons legend was fired by FIU after compiling a record 26-65 over three seasons, according to USA Today.
Kudos to Thomas for not damaging his reputation further with awkward off-court confrontations; this time around, it was terrible coaching that did him in. The fall from grace for Thomas has been rather consistent since his retirement, from failed coaching and talent evaluation (on both the collegiate and professional levels), to the revelation that many of his former NBA peers hated playing with him. Considering the bad hands that he keeps getting dealt, hopefully he finds something that he can stick to. Maybe – just maybe – he should start focusing his efforts on areas outside of basketball. With the kind of money he (hopefully still) has, he can still do a lot of good in the world.
