J. Cole sure knows how to keep a secret.
On Monday, Cole’s “Dollar & A Dream” tour made a stop in Houston where the artist sat down for an interview with Devi Dev at 97.9 The Box before his show later that night. The two talk about Jay-Z’s reaction to Born Sinner, crafting classics and the prospect of Cole releasing his previous mixtapes for sale.
Also, the Roc MC shared his very unique story of how and where Nas first heard “Let Nas Down” and how together, they decided to release “Made Nas Proud.” As it turns out, Cole had God Son’s verse stashed for some time now.
“I knew, but, it still didn’t matter. It’s still a major moment. It was still an amazing moment,” Cole said when asked if he knew about Nas making the track. “I was like, waiting, for days for that moment. Period. It’s just an amazing moment in my life. I knew he had did his verse or whatever — we talked about it about a week and some change ago. We’ve been working on this for the past two weeks. It was a huge moment just for hip-hop, period, but more importantly, for me. I’m going to be selfish with this one.”
In the second clip below, watch as Cole brings out Kendrick Lamar as a surprise guest and the two run through the song “Forbidden Fruit” together as a treat to fans.
