The Analog Tape is a thirty-minute sampling of J57’s skill behind the boards, a little something to bob your head to. That may sound generic as hell, sure, but The Analog Tape’s quality from the very beginning. The Brown Bag All-Star kicks this creation off with a gem, all swaying, joyous strings and skipping drums and never slows down from there. Each sample-rich beat flows into the next, with snippets of movies, speeches, and other bits of culture weaving in and out to give things a little color. It’s a cohesive piece of work that more than lives up to the “dirty, dusty, Stretch & Bobbito era vibe” J57 described when he first debuted it on the net.
Shouts to Dart Adams as well, who helped put this together over at Producers I Know.
If you’d like a little bit more J57 in your life, download and check out the Eye Don’t Dream… But I Do EP that he dropped with Sene a while back. It’s managed to stay in rotation for me for a long time now, even as my Google Reader strains under the weight of all the new music out there in the world.
