Jadeveon Clowney: “I Was Just Out Of Shape Last Year.” Say What Now?

Each and every one of us woke up this morning, and you know what the good Lord blessed us with? The official start of football season! That’s right, in primetime, #6 South Carolina hosts North Carolina under the lights in a game that actually matters!

Tonight, The Jadeveon Clowney Show airs its season premiere. One person ready to get down to business is the guy J.D. will be lined up against most of the game, UNC’s All-ACC left tackle James Hurst, who has been watching film since January. “I don’t really know if it matters if I’m tired of talking about him because I know it’s going to be a big deal,” Hurst said. “It just keeps reminding me of how big of a deal it is, so it’s probably a good thing.”

A good thing indeed because according to the human weapon of mass destruction/reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year who had 13 sacks, he’s in the best shape of his life. “I used to get tired last year during games a lot. Now, I just got myself really in shape. That’s all it was. I am not worried about my game, because my game was all right last year. I was just out of shape last year.”

Um, what? Excuse me?

That’s probably not the news UNC quarterback Bryn Renner wanted to hear. Renner, however, when not attempting to escape imminent danger could damn well be the best offensive weapon on either team. He’s thrown 52 touchdowns over the past two years and went without an interception his last 91 attempts last season.

Great numbers, but the more telling statistic could be 20-0, which just happens to be Steve Spurrier’s record for home openers dating back to his inaugural season at Florida. So there’s the betting straw if one is needed while shooting the sh*t around the office today.

The festivites begin this evening at 6:00 p.m. EST on ESPN. Also, #24 USC travels to Hawaii for an opener that kicks off at 11 p.m. EST. Everyone pray for All-American wideout Marqise Lee, by the way. The Trojans enter tonight having an open competition at quarterback between sophomores Max Wittek and Cody Kessler.* Somewhere, a Southern Cal fan has already begun drinking and cursing out Lane Kiffin.

This time of the year is great.

* – There’s a great Mark Sanchez joke here. Just haven’t quite put my finger on it yet.
