For as great a college football wideout as Justin Blackmon was at Oklahoma State, it’s a damn shame his first appearance around these parts is because of a brush with the wrong side of the law. Blackmon, the fifth overall pick by the Jaguars in this year’s draft, was arrested in the wee hours of Sunday morning after driving 60 in a 35. Stillwater police say Justin was slurring his speech and had a difficult time standing up. When asked to submit to a breathalyzer test, the result was a whooping .24.
Lord only knows what buddy was downing earlier that night, but .24 means he was turned up to the max and it’s surprising he was even standing.* He probably blacked out a few times too and the fact he walked away injury free and not harming anyone else is a bigger blessing than most care to recognize. The incident is actually Blackmon’s second DUI skirmish; he was arrested in October 2010 after driving 90 in a 60.
Justin may want to hurry up and sign his rookie contract, too. Court costs aren’t cheap and it’d probably be in his best interests if he hires a personal driver. Chances are he’ll still be battling a hangover once he has to reappear in court Monday afternoon.
* – There was a pretty funny joke on Twitter saying Blackmon’s BAC would be higher than Blaine Gabbert’s passer rating.
