What an appropriate title for this new Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu track, “Q.U.E.E.N.” The mish-mash between uptempo ’80s pop–like the type of stuff you’d see on a Jimmy Jam- and Terry Lewis-produced Janet record–and jazz befits the powerful personalities of both R&B queens. It’s all raucous energy for its first three and a half minutes before the track closes out with a jazzy breakdown and a Monae rap about breaking out of the shackles of injustice, whether it be sex- or race-based.
So check out “Q.U.E.E.N.” below. The track will appear on Monae’s The Electric Lady, which will drop this fall courtesy of Bad Boy.
