“She’s talented, but anyone who can sing about pain and heartbreak for this long is obviously ‘dealing with some issues that you can’t believe.’” Yeezy told me that.”
Crazy to realize over three years passed since those words were penned. But the wait is officially over. Jazmine Sullivan announced her return to music at London’s KOKO Theater at a show this past weekend.
“It’s been awhile,” the singer said during the intimate performance. Running through a list of signature covers and her own hits including “Lions, Tigers & Bears,” “Need U Bad” and “In Love With Another Man,” Sullivan didn’t appear to lose a beat, even debuting a new song, “Masterpiece.” Jazmine’s music has always drawn inspiration from pain. So it was telling to her hear her confess to the crowd the industry’s idea of beauty and an abusive relationship were the sources of her exile.
Don’t expect to wait long for Jazmine to gather her sea legs underneath her either. A new album is already in the works with the official single arriving sooner than that.
Welcome back, Jazzy. Let’s not dwell on the past. Just promise not to leave me again. Cool? Cool.
