I stumbled across Jill Scott’s new song and BV’s “Why We Need Jill Scott” at the same time earlier today.
“(T)here’s nothing all that extraordinary about ‘So In Love,’ which is the debut single from her forthcoming ‘Light of the Sun.’ The track comes across as really quite regular to the seasoned soul music ear — there is no roaring instrumentation, or belting bridges or hooks. It’s just that we’ve been suffocating all these years without a real authentic sound…that Scott’s single feels like an inhaler for the relief of a sonic asthma attack.”
Instead of going into a set of lengthy prose, let’s just say Thomas nailed the description. While there’s nothing lavish about “So In Love,” that’s the most of its beauty. The tune’s simple and clean, sounding befitting for click-clacks and slacks, maybe sangria and dancing a two-step in celebration with a significant other. In many ways, the “Rhythm” in R&B marks a right alongside Jill.[audio:http://www.archive.org/download/JillScottFeat.AnthonyHamilton-soInLove/So-In-Love-ft.-Anthony-Hamilton.mp3%5D
Jill Scott Feat. Anthony Hamilton – “So In Love”
Bonus: Some snazzy behind-the-scenes footage of her next single, “Shame” with cameos from the likes of Black Thought, Eve, Pharoahe Monch and Meek Mill. I think it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing plenty of Jill this year as she’s known to make summertime that much cooler.
