Words like “nostalgic” get thrown around a lot when talking about Joey BadA$$, and it downplays his originality (“I don’t drink too much/ I know the bud wiser” always gets me). Joey seamlessly intertwines clever wordplay and introspective rhymes with beats and bass reminiscent of the Golden Era yet still manages to carve his own path when ’90s revival is an easy way to quick internet-stardom. What he does with “Curry Chicken” is no different.

The cut, his fourth single off of his debut LP B4.DA.$$, is a soulful remedy to the cold of the harsh winter Joey’s faced with the untimely loss of Junior B. The personal reflection, the dedication to his Caribbean roots mixed with melodic soul samples definitely holds the part of you that misses the comfort of the simpler times when life was all good. Listen to track below and let “Curry Chicken” fill you up until the main course arrives on January 20th.
