I’m lukewarm on Bill Simmons (at best), but I can’t deny that he’s contributed a lot to sports journalism culture. The “Tyson Zone,” for example, is a pretty apt way to describe certain athletes who just do the most outrageous, reprehensible things to the point where nothing is out of play.
J.R. Smith? Yeah, he’s called the ‘Zone’ home for awhile now. Add this cartoonish in-game behavior to the résumé. During last night’s victory over the Dallas Mavericks, the Knicks gunner untied Shawn Marion’s shoes at the free throw line.
Long live J.R. Smith, King Troll.
