100-Word Album Review: Justin Bieber’s “Believe”

With Believe, Justin Bieber tries to expand his rabid Belieber fanbase outside of the female tweenage demographic. If the record was in the vein of his first single “Boyfriend,” then that would be easily accomplished. However, a listen through reveals that he’s still unabashedly a teenage pop star singing pop songs. Even with Hip-Hop heavyweights like Drake, Big Sean, Ludacris, and Nicki Minaj, and touches of techno by way of a few well-placed breakdowns, Believe’s still very much a pop album that will dominate FM radio this summer. Bieber isn’t elevating art forms here. Just his pocketbook.

Standout Songs: “As Long As You Love Me” (Feat. Big Sean), “Beauty And The Beat” (Feat. Nicki MInaj), and “Boyfriend”

One To Skip: “Die In Your Arms”
