With over a million views since 2007, this video wouldn’t exactly categorize itself as “rare.”
Whether admitted or not, The Mickey Mouse Club was sort of an unique incarnate of Saturday Night Live (for kids) and the predecessor for what became Nickelodeon’s All That. And truth be told, the show produced more than its fair share of pop culture wunderkinds who, in turn, went on to have lucrative careers long after puberty hit.
Take this cover of Jodeci’s smash “Cry For You.”
Keeping in mind this was a kid’s show on the ultimate kid’s network, it makes sense Dale Godboldo, JC Chasez and two former roommates named Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake were assigned this and not, say, “Freek’n You.”
The clip does confirm two truths, however. No, better yet, four.
1. There’s a 94% chance the girls losing their minds in the audience had no clue what these four were performing. They just wanted their Ashley Banks and Tevin Campbell moment.
2. Everyone wanted to be KCi in the early ’90s.
3. Bet money the body roll around the 2:22 mark was Timberlake’s idea.
4. Timberlake was always a shiner, thus proven here by not two-stepping with the group and the classic catcher’s squat down in front of a fan while glaring directly into the camera (a vet move if there was one). But Gosling – who resembles Macaulay Culkin here – more than held his own. The hand movements receive a solid A for effort, too.
