While the rest of the G.O.O.D. roster has made the rounds this week, Kanye West has been noticeably absent. Until today, when Yeezy updated his YouTube channel with a clip breaking down what Cruel Summer means. West shares how the compilation came to be and the group effort was an attempt to capture a moment. As he called it, “We just wanna have fun and commune and festivalize—I’m not sure if that’s currently a word but it will be afterwards.” More importantly, West wants listeners to take the Cruel and make the finished product part of their daily routine. “We’re making music to create to; music to be creative to; music that you listen to on your way to work so that you can deal with your boss,” he explains, “music that you listen to ’cause you’re the boss, so you can deal with your employees.”

Meanwhile, Common, Pusha T, Cyhi the Prynce, Teyana Taylor and Big Sean stopped through Fuse’s studio to talk about competition within the crew, the recording process behind the project and even admitting that recording with Kanye was no walk in the park since the guy’s all about “perfectionism.”
