Nestled in a recent BBC article about potential Kimye baby names was a brighter gem shining light on the G.O.O.D. captain’s next album title.
“Mixed emotions greet reports that Kanye West is considering calling his first child North. It’s a good joke, from a slightly unexpected source (neither the rapper nor his possibly even more famous partner, Kim Kardashian, are best known for their self-deprecating sallies, although the title Kanye is supposed to be contemplating for his new album, I Am God, is said to be ‘half tongue-in-cheek’).”
Whatever. Entertainers name their kids outlandish shit all the time so no big deal there.
But I Am God?
What seems like offhand, tabloid fodder gains credibility when we realize 1.) the source is BBC, which doesn’t make the title concrete but helps lay the cement and 2.) Questlove came behind later tweeting the message “I Am God…. (you’ll get it later).”

It’s like you can already hear conservatives clicking away mercilessly on the keyboards while typing up angry essays in response. Running a close second would be critics ready to rip the album to shreds if it isn’t superhuman in sound and perfect in form, you know, because artists can’t go around aligning their work with God means that it has to be pretty damn good since God doesn’t make mistakes.
As I always say, rap’s more fun when Kanye’s around.
