According to TMZ, Syl Johnson sucked some of “The Joy” out of one of Kanye and Jay’s Watch The Throne tracks or rather he left it in return for a chunk of money. The two sides settled out of court regarding Johnson and the Numero Group’s original claim that the Pete Rock-produced song “The Joy” contained an uncleared usage of his original track “Different Strokes.” According to TMZ, legal docs filed in Illinois last week show the lawsuit was dismissed as a result of both sides reaching a settlement although no financial details were made available.

Johnson’s no stranger to getting what’s rightfully his, having previously sued Michael Jackson, Cypress Hill and Jefferson Airplane for similar instances of copyright infringement. “Different Strokes” is said to have been sampled legally more than 50 times and Syl Johnson’s gotten paid each time.
