Jay-Z has had it so rough lately. Oh he’s got more money than Consequence’s dentist, a gorgeous, independently rich, and talented wife, and he’s going on a small tour with a little known blue-eyed soulster over the summer. Still, all of that has to pale in comparison to not making MTV’s “Hottest MCs” list. Thankfully, the leader of the new school that topped that list threw a bone to the poor guy to give his floundering career a shot in the arm.
Kendrick Lamar topped the aforementioned list because of the buzz that follows releasing one of the best albums of the last year, in any genre. But what he was actually able to do with his jaw-droppingly good debut was eschew what’s “hot” and make something timeless.
One of the album’s centerpieces, “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” gets the remix treatment courtesy of the aforementioned artist on the verge. Their divergent styles fit like hand in glove or, in this case, one hand washing the other. Hopefully the unsung emcee from Brooklyn can parlay this look into a spot on next year’s list.
Below, watch and listen as Young Guru previews the track live at SXSW on Wednesday night. We’ll update with a proper CDQ mp3 when it drops.
Update: Here we are (finally) with the untagged, CDQ version of the track. Clean for now, which makes sense because you don’t waste a Jay-Z by not gunning for radio play. Dirty version, coming soon we’ll presume. Thanks Splash.
Update 2: Dirty via TDE themselves, along with the artwork. Infer what you will.
