With critically-acclaimed mixtapes and albums and his music serving as academic focal points, Kendrick Lamar is about as well-liked as they come in Hip-Hop. That doesn’t mean he still doesn’t encounter the same hurdles everyone else in the industry does.

Eric Reed and Willie Jones III could very well be fans of TDE’s top dawg, but they’re still looking for a $1 million check from him as well as all profits and rights to one of Dot’s most popular records. The duo claims Lamar’s “Rigamortis” – from 2011’s Section.80 – sampled their 2010 song entitled “The Thorn.”

Per their lawsuit, “The Thorn’ isn’t merely part of ‘Rigamortis’…it is ‘Rigamortis.'”

While the court of public opinion isn’t an official one, it is a highly influential body. So, people of the jury, the question is presented. Are Reed and Jones throwing something against the wall to see if it sticks? Or is Kendrick going to have to cut a check?
