Upon hearing that Killer Mike was going to be a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, I first assumed there was going to be a performance of some sort like the last time he was on. Much to my delight, Colbert instead had Mike on for an quick interview.
As Gotty can attest, Mike can provide great conversation without having anything in particular to promote. So, while the middle portion of the interview was about racial strife in the U.S., with Mike providing a more condensed commentary than usual (“The same problems that we’re discussing today, we discussed in 1990, 1980, 1970, and 1960.”), we also got to hear Mike speak about his PTA wardrobe, his daughter’s behavior in school, and how he got his “Killer” moniker. It’s the most comprehensive six minutes you’ll get to spend learning about the artist as a man.
