One of Chicago rap’s biggest names will spend the days leading up to Christmas recovering in a West Side hospital.
King Louie was shot in the head recently in the Southwest Side neighborhood of Ashburn. Chicago Sun-Times reporter Sam Charles confirmed not only the shooting but good news about the artist’s health.
According to Charles’ filed story, Louie was in a car in the 3900 block of West 83rd when he was hit. After being injured, he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn to receive medical attention. No motive for the attack is known at this time.
Louie recently featured in an anti-violence track with fellow Windy City rappers like Common, Lil Herb, Saba, Tree, and Katie Got Bandz to spur young Chicagoans to put the guns down.
We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
Update: Louie’s condition is improving and he’s “awake and talking,” according to a statement by his management to the Chicago Sun-Times. Rolling Stone‘s managed to piece together more info related to the shooting incident.
“Chicago’s Fox 32 added some more details from the shooting, reporting that the 27-year-old King Louie, born Louie Johnson Jr., was grazed with a bullet when someone opened fire on Louie’s car at the intersection of 83rd and Pulaski. A police spokesperson told the Chicago Tribune that the rapper was sitting in his vehicle when someone stepped alongside the car and shot King Louie in the left side of his head.”
Update: Looks like Louie is recovering in the hospital and he’s thanking fans for their well wishes. The rapper posted a few pics to his Instagram, including one with Minister Louis Farrakhan, to let everyone know he’s on the mend and doing well. He wrote, “I wanna send thanks to everyone for their prayers & support!” so let’s hope he’s back on his feet soon.
