Remember when Mayweather had Lil Wayne in his corner for that Alvarez fight last September? Needless to say, the line between sports and rap continues to blur. So it shouldn’t surprise that Weezy got Kobe Bryant to help spread the good word of Carter V via his Instagram with the note “Carter V season begins #carterV.”

And then, Weezy, via Twitter:

No word yet on if this stunt is just to promote awareness for the project or if this is the actual album art work. If I’m a gambling man, the lack of a physical Lil Wayne is an indicator that this isn’t, in fact, the actual cover (Weezy’s been front and center of every Carter cover; why break the streak now?). Time will tell. At least we can take solace in Wayne getting his favorite player to help out. We wouldn’t expect anything less from the lifelong Lakers fan.

Update: Cortez says it’s not the cover, people. The pic’s purpose was merely to serve notice that Weezy about to crank up Tha Carter promo.
