Hearing rappers pay tribute to B.I.G. through song is not really much of a surprise anymore. Hearing random sportscasters quote the late, great Christopher Wallace? Now that’s something totally different. For years, I have held a small shred of hope that Marv Albert or Gus Johnson would witness game/series altering play and then fire off some random Jay-Z lyric (or any other rapper). Personally, I think that would result in the greatest thing to happen to sports since the breaking of the color barrier. And after watching the following clip, I’m positive it would be.
While calling a Boys’ Latin School Of Maryland lacrosse game, the commentaor became so excited over a goal he began to cite lyrics from Frank White’s “Big Poppa” for what will ultimately be a cool, under-the-radar moment in sports history. As a Hip Hop fan, all I could do was smile and say “Brooklyn, we did it!”
