If you’ve ever been to SXSW or A3C, there’s a good chance you’ve seen League of Extraordinary Gz perform or been handed one of their projects. Lyrically, they’re actually quite good. However, out of the handful of songs I’ve heard from the Austin rap faction, their new track “Hankuri” might be the nicest. While the content isn’t too far from the aimless tough talk and weed rhymes I’d heard previously, this LOEGz succeed here by enlisting Shane Eli to lace this short spin with almost all live instrumentation, which combine into a funky circus of sound that contrasts well with their gritty spit and versatile flows.
Hopefully the left-field feel continues throughout the rest of their upcoming project, The Plug, which is entirely produced Eli and due out soon.
