Quiet as kept, Lil Herb’s Welcome To Fazoland stands as one of the better projects of 2014 (get it here). It’s raw, gritty and impressive for a young buck who’s new on the national scene.
Herb’s extending the life of the project by dropping a “Fight Or Flight” remix featuring fellow Windy City denizens Common – who Herb worked with previously on “The Neighborhood” – and Chance The Rapper. Even though each artists’ approach to music differs, their shared experiences as boys who grew into men facing similar circumstances on the same city blocks bind them together here. It’s Chance who signs off on his verse with the line “I’d rather be a real man than a real n*gga, real talk” that best captures what it seems like each MC is aspiring for.
