Lionel Messi Is The Best, Reason No. 4080: His Game-Winning Goal Vs. Iran

Like the douchebag I am, I didn’t see Argentina’s Lionel Messi score his game-winning brace against Iran in second half stoppage time, a goal which sent his Southern Cone nation through to the knockout rounds.

No, I didn’t see it, because I was “brunching”–like a douchebag, remember–but social media’s always kind enough to remind me of what I missed. So this Messi guy, apparently, being the god that he is, took on his Iranian defender outside the box before just saying “f*ck it” and unleashing one his signature left-footed curlers to the back post to break the 0-0 deadlock. It was very pretty.

What’s left to say? The Barcelona forward is the best in the world (and the Ronaldo argument’s moot here because of Ronaldo’s play so far), and you can watch why below.

Argentina play Nigeria and Iran play Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday for each team’s last Group F matches.
