Understanding The Madness: Looking Ahead To The NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16

The early-round upset dust has finally settled and for the first time in years, the Sweet 16 is full of teams that should logically be there. Every number one is intact, and the only teams that really surprise are Xavier, North Carolina State and Ohio University. Besides that, the favorites are having their way, setting up some pretty interesting match-ups.

Louisville and Michigan State should be a great game; Big Ten player of the year Draymond Green will have his hands full with a physical Cardinal front court. Marquette and Florida could be the most entertaining game, featuring two of the better offenses in the tourney. The most interesting region to watch, though, will be the Midwest, as both games are classic David vs. Goliath, with Ohio University knuckling up against North Carolina (potentially without star point guard Kendall Marshall) and N.C. State playing Kansas.

Despite the lack of underdogs, the next few rounds of the tournament will still provide some incredibly exciting moments. And if the top seeds win out, a Kentucky-North Carolina match-up could be what we’re treated to in the championship game. Considering the abundance of talent on both rosters, hoops fans couldn’t ask for a better game.
