Last time Cris dropped off a supposed Ludaversal single, I claimed the rump-shaking jam would make noise – then never heard it once afterwords. Well, now we have the second single from his long-awaited album and the results are much more favorable. On “Representin,” the DJ-turnt-rapper-turnt-actor-turnt-rapper caters to the a classier type of female, atop stratospheric production from the wicked combination of Jim Jonsin and Rico Love.
This track definitely carries mass appeal, but the downtempo mood doesn’t bring out the marketability in Luda fans are accustomed to, and might be more fit for the likes of Fabolous or Trey Songz. Either way, only time will tell if this is the tipping point for a Skinny Black resurgence.
In the meantime, my ratio of bold calls to safe calls is being flipped.
