As the resident Filipino of TSS, I was going to comment on this after the Pacquiao-Marquez III fight on November 12th however I felt compelled to write after viewing the last night’s Pac-Man karaoke session on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Yes, Manny Pacquiao and Jimmy Kimmel have taken their bromance to the next level by singing a duet of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.”
Now if you have any Filipino friends, you would know that having a Karaoke machine is like having a fridge in the crib – and we’re actually damn proud of it. With that understood, I treat Manny as the drunk uncle in my fam who had a little too many Heinekens and decided to pick up a mic and sing. While everyone is having a blast letting the champ sing his heart out, I get a tad bit embarrassed but then adulate the guy for having the cojones to get up there and sing.
It’s the same way he approaches the ring. Who would think a 5’6″ Filipino kid would be in discussions of one of the greatest boxers who ever lived? As he prepares for his biggest fight that’s not against Floyd Mayweather Jr., you have to give it up to Congressman Manny for once again taking a break like many of my people – singing Karaoke. But as Manny has risen to his larger than life persona, even his Karaoke sessions are broadcast in front of millions. If Pacquiao is that unafraid, wouldn’t that be the fighter you root for? That would lead me to believe win or lose versus Marquez, he would wholeheartedly take on Floyd with nothing to fear like a perfect record.
