M.I.A. already predicted the basic idea of the NSA spying on everyone three years before it happened in her song “The Message” (and was subsequently mocked for her song) so it doesn’t come as a surprise that she’s back with a politically charged, self-directed video for “Double Bubble Trouble” off 2013’s Matangi.
If I’m reading into it correctly, she’s back to disrupt our lives – with those colorful guns created by the 3D printer? – and draw attention to some of the not-so-pretty things going on around the world. Drones, censorship, and an Orwellian state are among the other themes that M.I.A. addresses in the video. Of course, they’re accentuated by strobe effects and a dance routine because this is a music video after all.
