For every name popping up from Chicago’s various music scenes, they each owe a nod to guys like Mic Terror. Along with the Lupes, Naledges and Mikkey Halsteds of the 2000s era, the Treated Crew member helped bridge the gap from Common to today by creating his fair share of songs that garnered critical approval even if the mainstream never really caught on.
Now, he’s looking to change that with his upcoming Fresh Prince Of Darkness LP. Produced by Ryan ESL and Mic’s Treated brethren Million $ Mano, “15 Minutes” is the first song to start the campaign rolling and, while the first verse hesitates initially, everything comes together by verse two with Mic falling into his in-your-face but colorful way with words (“Girlfriends wanna freak me up, her boyfriend wants to beat me up, Somebody give me a fuck, ’cause I ain’t got none to give, live life like I only got one to live, grind hard ’cause a n*gga got a couple o’ kids“).
Fresh Prince of Darkness will be released in early 2014 via Closed Sessions and set to include features and production from Mano, Cardo, Caleb James, Hollywood Holt and more. And with the focus shifted back towards the Chi again, Mic’s turn to shine should be coming soon.
